  • Responsible for articulating VCC’s mission and program goals through written and verbal communications
  • Identify cultural preferences and practices of target population to incorporate into communications and materials
  • Develop and monitor an array of communication products and collateral material ensuring accuracy of all content delivered, including talking points, presentations, key messages, briefings, educational curriculum, trainings, flyers, and Photovoice, using a variety of communication formats and platforms, including print, social media, web, video, podcasts, etc.
  • Update program website


  • Initiate and coordinate media advocacy activities and follow up to ensure maximum press exposure serving as a liaison between the program and members of the media
  • Research, write and pitch all press releases, articles and coordinate press conferences
  • Manage social media platforms including developing and maintaining calendars, content, engagement and the program’s online persona and brand

Community Engagement

  • Work to broaden community engagement in public policy efforts
  • Provide group and individual information, education, training, consultation and referrals to target populations, in accordance with program guidelines and/or as directed by Supervisor
  • Identify key individuals and groups in the community to recruit for program goals and serve as a liaison between them and the agency
  • Attend and serve as a representative at professional meetings
  • Monitor, document and summarize status of project activities and complete required reports
  • Assist in the training of program staff, as needed



  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Minimum five years’ of related experience in media, marketing, community organizing or public policy
  • Valid California driver’s license and vehicle insurance; reliable transportation, to travel for meetings and/or to gather information for reporting purposes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Minimum of two years’ of related experience in media, marketing, community organizing or public policy
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, InDesign and WordPress
  • Experience with graphic programs for the development of newsletter
  • Thorough knowledge of correct English grammar, spelling and punctuation
